In the dissertation “The impact of information technology on radiology services” the author describes the most important changes that took place in the field of information technology since the end of past century, and their impact on radiology. Digital archiving, processing and distribution of radiological images, as well as the development of various types of teleradiology, are an important part of this change.Ī real revolution has been provoked in radiology by the complete digitisation of medical imaging and the deep integration of Internet in both society and healthcare. Radiology is facing many new challenges and opportunities due to the on-going exchangeability, integration and automated analysis of medical data and images. Other major trends such as the increasing personalisation of medicine and growing engagement of patients in their healthcare process are also significantly influencing this turnaround in radiology. In this thesis the impact of digitisation on radiology is analysed based upon diverse initiatives and research projects that were conducted in the period between the early days and now. Features include full support of DICOMDIRs (view, open, create, edit, and image or series selection for viewing or/and for transferring in another folder), supports also JPEG, JPEG2000, TIFF, PNG, GIF (read only), and BMP image formats, comparison of DICOM files tag by tag, integrated hexadecimal file editor, integrated hexadecimal DICOM Viewer, file searching with criteria (patient name and study ID) within hard disk's or CD's folders, file searching by tag's existence and/or tag's value within hard disk's or CD's folders, external DICOM dictionary support, image orientation (flip and rotate), and image and canvas resizing.Various topics such as web-based sharing of radiological images, teleradiology, digital communication and advanced processing of medical data, are discussed. Sante DICOM Viewer is designed and implemented with the advanced programming tools (Microsoft Visual C++ 2005). Sante DICOM Viewer allows the user to work smoothly in multi-modality, multi-manufacturer environment. It has designed to bring all the capabilities of a commercial DICOM workstation to the physician's personal computer. It is compatible with all modalities (CT, MR, NM, US, XA, MG, and CR) and all manufacturers and all DICOM 3.0 and NEMA 2 file types.
